Upon our arrival to site the client had already made a start opening up the recess but stopped short as the brickwork was loose. We subsequently opened up the recess to reveal an original brick arch and solid slate hearth.
The brick arch was not in a good state of repair and required some re building. A new steel arch was installed under the bricks to support them and the joints pointed with a lime and grit mortar to provide an as original finish.
Inside the recess the client requested that the brickwork be patch pointed and left as original. We then installed a DEFRA approved Morso Squirrel into a 316 grade flexible flue liner.
