The outline brief was to create a traditional looking surround for a Vermont Intrepid II.
We had to increase the size of the fireplace opening to a size to suit the clients choice of appliance which meant opening up the existing fireplace and installing a reinforced concrete lintel. To the sides of the recess we supplied and bedded in lime mortar some new bricks from Penny's brick company. The hearth was laid on a concrete slab and is a natural stone floor tile with a brick edge detail to finish. The plaster around where the lintel was installed was made good and a distressed solid oak facing lintel installed.
