How long does it take to cook a pizza in a wood pizza oven?
At Hot Box, we have tested a number of different types of wood pizza ovens. In most ovens, the ideal operating temperature is around 400° centigrade meaning that a pizza will take around 90 seconds to fully cook.
What wood should I use to cook with?
To cook with wood it is important that it is of a good quality, completely pure and dry. Ideally we would recommend using food grade logs or briquettes available from online suppliers.
Hot Box do not recommend the use of wood that has been treated, painted or preserved in any way. Such wood could contain harmful chemicals and be poisonous.
How much do they cost?
Like all things, there are many different types of pizza oven out there and the price differences can be huge. If you want a professional oven expect to pay circa 5K-10k for the unit alone. Installaiton costs will depend on where it needs to be fitted to meet your needs.
For a domestic wood pizza oven, good ones tend to start at around £1000.
