Stove Project Overview

We were asked to do a home survey at our customer’s newly purchased property. They wanted to replace an old unused gas fireplace and install a wood-burning stove with a high-efficiency rating as well as a large viewing window to allow them to enjoy the view of the fire and create a cosy atmosphere for the fast-approaching winter months. Taking our customer’s requirements as well as the size of the room into consideration, our project manager suggested Parkray Aspect 5 Compact wood burning stove.

Parkray Aspect 5 Compact Eco offers a combination of stylish aesthetics, a substantial window, easy control, and Tripleburn® technology for eco-friendly, efficient burning. All Aspect stoves produce 5 times less smoke than required under the current Eco Design 2022 standardsThe Aspect 5 Compact is highly controllable even though it has a nominal output of 5kW, the aspect 5 can reach an output as high as 6kW or as low as 4kW within seconds. With its depth of only 314 mm, it’s a perfect stove to fit into a narrow recess.

INSTALLATION

To begin with, temporary protection was placed in all areas where work was to be carried out and a gas-safe engineer was instructed to cut/cap off the gas to the recess.  The old fire together with the old heart was removed and work began to create an approximately 900mm x 900mm fireplace opening which once completed was lined with a fireboard in preparation to be painted by our customers. Once recess works were completed, our engineers installed a 20mm thick decorative slate hearth and a Geocast beam above the recess.

Next, the chimney was swept and lined with a Schiedel 316-grade twin skin flue liner. The stove was placed into a position and a direct air kit was installed to the stove through the rear wall. Following that, a galvanised steel plate was fixed to the underside of the recess and sealed between the closure plate and chimney with high-temperature sealant. The stove was connected with the liner using twin wall chimney components as well as a stove pipe. The chimney flue was completed with the installation of a pot hanging cowl.

Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using the one and only Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed. Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
