The Charnwood Haven is a premium cooking stove. The appliance price is only part of the project cost. A complete installation may also require flue components, hearth works, ventilation, building preparation, chimney lining or a twin wall flue system.

The Haven has been designed around practical wood-fired cooking. The hotplate allows for boiling, simmering and frying, while the integrated oven supports roasting, baking and slow cooking.

Heating performance

With a rated output of 6.6kW to the room, the Charnwood Haven can provide meaningful space heating as well as cooking functionality. The correct room size, insulation level and air supply should always be assessed before ordering.

In a well-designed installation, the Haven can become a central heating and cooking feature for a smaller living space, kitchen, cabin or retreat.

A Charnwood Haven installation must be planned properly. The appliance is heavier and more specialised than many standard room heaters, and its cooking function means position, clearances, flue route and usability are especially important.

A typical Haven installation may include:

• Review of chimney, flue route or twin wall flue requirement
• Hearth size and non-combustible base assessment
• Flue connection design using suitable stove pipe components
• Ventilation or external air consideration where required
• Combustible clearance review
• Delivery, positioning and safe handling
• Commissioning, handover and HETAS certification where applicable

For homes without a suitable chimney, Hot Box can advise on a twin wall flue system.

Fuel, smoke control and everyday use

The Haven should be used with suitable dry wood. For clean combustion and reliable performance, use seasoned or kiln-dried logs with a moisture content of 20% or below.

• Use Ready to Burn logs
• Avoid wet timber, treated timber and waste wood
• Use a moisture meter to check log moisture
• Have the chimney swept regularly
• Follow the Charnwood user instructions for lighting and refuelling

If your property is in a smoke control area, the exact appliance configuration and approved fuel use should be confirmed before installation. Hot Box can advise on the suitability of the Charnwood Haven for your address and intended use.

Clean Lighting • No Kindling

Lighting the Charnwood Haven with Hot Box ® Firestarter

A wood-fired cooking appliance needs a reliable start. Hot Box ® Firestarter is designed to help light wood burning stoves and wood-fired appliances without kindling, making it a useful companion product for Charnwood Haven owners.

Place the firestarter in the firebox, light it, and add suitable dry logs in accordance with the appliance instructions. Keep the air controls open during start-up, then adjust once the fire is established.

• Works best with dry logs at 20% moisture or below

Lighting tip

Do not overload the appliance during lighting. Use dry logs, give the fire air, and allow the flue to warm before reducing the controls.
