Stove Project Overview

We were asked to install a wood-burning stove in a newly built living room extension. Our customers wanted a corner stove as a primary source of heat, but also a focal point to the space they had just created. Taking into consideration the size of the room and our customer’s design requirements, our project manager suggested Parkray Aspect 5 on a tall log base. Parkray Aspect range not only offers a contemporary, sleek design but also a large viewing window that creates a cosy atmosphere and allows you to really enjoy the view of the fire.

The Aspect series are highly controllable, these stoves can change from a high to low output in a matter of seconds. Even with their generous maximum outputs, Parkray Aspect‘s stoves have impressively low CO emissions, which means they can keep your room warm whilst being environmentally friendly. This 5kW stove has a high-efficiency rating that exceeds the current Eco Design 2022 regulations, and is DEFRA-exempt, meaning it can be installed in smoke-controlled areas. 

INSTALLATION

As with every installation, the works began with placing temporary protection from the point where our operatives enter the property through to the room where the installation was undertaken.

To start with, the stove was placed on a teardrop matt granite-type hearth. Once it was in the correct position, a black Schiedel Twin Wall Chimney System was installed to the top of the stove; vertically through the ceiling and roof covering to a height in accordance with Document J of Building Regulations, using fixing brackets and components where required.

Following that, our operatives supplied and installed a suitable flashing kit, storm collar and completed the chimney installation with an anti-down draft cowl.

Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that, there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed.

Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
