The Hobbit SE | Freestanding Store Installation

Stove Project Overview

Hot Box Stoves was asked to install a small stove in a newly built man cave at the back of a family home garden. Our customer opted for The Hobbit SE with brass fittings, stainless steel cooktop, coal bars and both doors in metallic black.

The stove was placed on the customer’s own custom-built base using an engine chamber from a Harrier jump jet creating a focal point in the newly created space.

STOVE

The Hobbit SE stove is a small, but powerful, wood-burning stove that is perfect for small spaces. This stove is designed to be efficient, reliable, and easy to use, making it a great choice for anyone who wants to heat their home without breaking the bank.

One of the key features of the Hobbit SE stove is its compact size. Measuring just 12 inches wide, this stove is perfect for tiny homes, cabins, and other small spaces. Despite its small size, however, the Hobbit SE is a powerful stove with a 4kW heat output. This makes it ideal for use as a primary heat source, especially in homes that are off the grid or have limited access to electricity.

Another feature that sets the Hobbit SE stove apart from other wood-burning stoves is its efficiency. With an efficiency rating of 81.4%, this stove is designed to burn wood cleanly and efficiently, producing minimal smoke and ash. This not only makes it better for the environment, but also means that you’ll spend less time cleaning and maintaining your stove.

INSTALLATION

As with every installation, the work began with placing temporary protection in all areas where work was to be carried out. To start with, the stove was placed on the customer’s stand. A black Schiedel Twin Wall Chimney System was installed to the back of the stove using Salamander’s rear flue wedge and continuing vertically through the ceiling and roof covering.

Following that, a bespoke lead flashing kit and roof box were installed; the chimney system was completed with an anti-down draft cowl.

Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed.

Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
