Traeger Grills | Foreward
Traeger grills are a popular brand of wood pellet grills that have been on the market for over 30 years. These grills use wood pellets as fuel, which are made from compressed sawdust and other wood by-products. This type of fuel gives the food cooked on a Traeger grill a unique smoky flavor that is difficult to replicate with gas or charcoal grills.
One of the key features of Traeger grills is their digital control system. This allows the user to set the temperature and cooking time with precision, and the grill will automatically feed the wood pellets into the burn pot to maintain the desired temperature. This makes it easy to cook food to perfection, even if you’re not an experienced grill master.
Another advantage of Traeger grills is their versatility. They can be used for traditional grilling, smoking, roasting, and even baking. This makes them a great choice for those who like to experiment with different cooking methods.
In terms of maintenance, Traeger grills are relatively low-maintenance. The wood pellets are easy to store and the ash pan makes cleanup a breeze. It is recommended to clean the grill grates and the drip tray after each use to ensure the grill stays in good working condition.
Traeger grills come in a variety of sizes and models, from small portable grills to large commercial models. Prices can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on the model and features.
In conclusion, Traeger grills are a great choice for those who want a unique smoky flavour in their food, precision temperature control, versatility, and ease of maintenance. They are a little bit more expensive than traditional gas or charcoal grills, but the unique flavor and convenience they offer make them worth the investment.
Traeger Smoker Grills
Traeger Smoker grills have really got their 💩 together this BBQ season.
Moreover, at Hot Box we like to provide insight into the products that we sell.
Further, this is not just here say, oh no, we actually take the products and have a go for ourselves.
This article aims to help those looking to buy a Traeger Smoker Grill this season.
As is our way, we have dissected the range of Traeger grills on offer and provided our thoughts on the same.
When it comes to our reviews, we believe in one thing, honesty.
So, what do you want to know about a Traeger Pellet Grill?
Traeger Smoker Grills | The History
Rumour has it that the range of Traeger grills came about as a result of a dude called Joe burning a chicken on a conventional BBQ.
How much truth is in this story remains to be seen, but its a nice thought, and we have all been there with traditional BBQ fare of cremated sausage and flaming yet raw chicken legs!
What’s important however is how his unfortunate poultry related incident shaped the products that we are here to discuss.
So, let’s assume he did burn his chicken, and was so clucking annoyed that he set out to solve a problem, the question is did he?
Traeger Smoker Grills | The Range
This season, after probably too much toing and froing, the chaps at Traeger have kept their edit simple.
We like simple, too much choice can serve only to confuse and not
satisfy.
Simple product ranges, simple descriptions and not too much choice are always the winners at Hot Box.
After all, when looking to buy a smoker grill you only want one, you don’t need two or two hundred varieties.
Importantly, you need it at the right price, available and to be reliable when used for its intended purpose.
Furthermore, before we examine the range, lets explore the purpose of a Traeger grill.
Meat is at the forefront of American Cuisine, without meat America would be unlikely to feature on any form of culinary map.
Moreover, it is this theme that runs through the veins of the Traeger pellet smoker range.
What can you cook on a Traeger BBQ | Its all about the following key points:
- Big meat | The bigger the meat the better it will be for smoking.
- Rubbing meat | Getting flavour into big meat by rubbing it is fundamental to the smoking process.
- Smoking meat | Slowly, with flavour and for a very long time, keeping your meat contained is fundamental to how a Traeger pellet grill works.
- Cooking options | Rubbing and smoking is not appropriate for all meat so the Traeger grills can also roast, braise, grill and smoke.
In short, the Traeger range is about cooking meat and offering the user versatility when doing so.
Great, now we have got this out of the way, let’s move onto the range of Traeger Smokers.
Let’s start big and go small, based upon cooking area, I know the old adage is to start from the bottom and work up, but let’s forget about that for now.
From the likes of Aaron Franklin to John Mueller, these dudes have earned serious notoriety by waving their meat around. They are certainly worth mentioning when it comes to cooking great BBQ!
Further, looking too cool for school is seemingly part of the BBQ theme, take the image below if you don’t believe us! #getyoursmokerfaceon
For ease of reference, each grill in the Traeger Smoker range, has their own associated pit master.
Absolutely, we have made this up, but it helps with the whole hog low slow BBQ theme right?
A pitmaster is a person who is au fait with operating a BBQ and producing tasty foodstuffs as a result.
Said BBQ does not have to be a Traeger BBQ, but it is arguably better if it is…
Traeger Smoker Grills | The Range from Traeger
Lets start big to maintain the all American theme and work our way down from there.
For reference, we have outlined the Traeger Grills range as follows:

The Traeger Ironwood | A great range of pellet smokers by Traeger.
Traeger pro | Nice, easy, cost effective smoker grills without the frills.
The Traeger Ranger | Portable pellet smoking, you’ll need an extension lead!
Each grill has some pretty imagery to tickle your pickle and some outline details of the cooking area to tell you what it does. Further, we have compared them to an example of a Pitmaster type who might be able to provide insight into how to cook your animal based foodstuffs.
Thereafter, and because we went to be informative, we move swiftly on to the other items on offer by Traeger.
Of course, there is a range of accessories to accessories each grill including drip trays, covers and utensils.
Moreover, the range of smoker pellets on offer from Traeger completes the set. Furthermore, if you want to buy a Traeger grill from Hot Box, our handy bundles mean you can plug, play and some right away!

Traeger Grills | The Hot Box verdict
Having looked closely in recent months at both Yoder and Traeger Smokers, we like them both.
Traeger Smokers have offerings art the lower end of the price spectrum which will invariably make them a more popular choice amongst back yard BBQ enthusiasts.
However, Yoder offer some serious grills which will appeal to professional BBQ establishment and mass catering emporiums.
This season, we expect to see some issues with demand on Yoder offerings so Traeger, should supply remain steady, will be our best sellers.
That said, Traeger Grills are very much geared towards the domestic BBQ market and although the larger models can create some serious BBQ the cooking space cannot compete with the likes of the Yoder Cimarron.
Overall however, Traeger Pellet smokers are superb, they offer versatility versus traditional BBQ.
If you want a smoker this summer, don’t hesitate to buy a Traeger Smoker grill, any of the models in the range will not disappoint.
Our top pick, based upon cooking space, standard features and aesthetics would be the Timberline 1300. At £2.5 G’s however, this is a long way form your average BBQ. But, if you are into creating some serious feasts this summer and want the ease of use offered by such, then don’t let price put you off.
Traeger Smoker grills are set to become a bestseller at Hot Box during summer 2021, get yours now!
So what’s new for 2022?
The simple answer is a few trinkets, Traeger, as a brand, already offer some great products.
However, they are bringing a couple of new friends to the BBQ.
Meater Thermometer
For those who want to get a little bit serious!
A temperature probe that keeps you a breast of the exact the, perature of your meat throughout the cook.
No more guesswork, the Meater probe adds a touch of science to the traditional BBQ.
We recommend the Meater Plus, check it out online. Available soon through Hot Box.
The Traeger Pro 22
A Traeger smoker without the fluff.
This dumbed down version of a traditional smoker grill offers basis functionality versus others in the range.
Further, the price point has been reduced by £200 to make this the most affordable Traeger Grill.
So what’s the difference?
Keeping it simple, Traeger have removed the frills in terms of wifi connectivity and made the cooking process more of a manual affair.
However, you can still achieve the same results with the turn of a knob, rather than by fettling a smartphone.
Furthermore, if you are looking for an entry level back yard smoker, the 22 may just rub you up right!
Thats all for now…
Out…
