Overview: The End-to-End Pathway

Our HETAS-qualified process is designed to be simple, safe and compliant—from first visit to first fire.

1) Pre-Install Survey (What We Check)

• Room & Heat: Room volume, insulation level, air-tightness and target heat output.
• Chimney/Flue: Existing masonry & liner condition, or feasibility of a twin-wall route.
• Hearth & Surround: Non-combustible base specifications and opening/clearance checks.
• Air & Ventilation: Dedicated air supply requirements (especially for modern airtight homes).
• Location: Clearances to combustibles, furniture and mantel/beam distances.
• Compliance: Building Regulations considerations and Smoke Control Area guidance.

Tip: If you’re in a newer airtight property, we’ll specify a stove with an external air kit and confirm siting for the CO alarm during the survey.

2) Design & Specification (Getting It Right on Paper)

After survey, you’ll receive a clear specification covering:

• Appliance choice: From our stove collection, including Ecodesign-Ready models.
• Flue system: Liner grade/diameter or twin-wall route, terminations and support.
• Hearth & surround: Dimensions, materials and finish to suit your interior.
• Ancillaries: CO alarm, register plate, notice plate, and operational manuals.

3) Installation Day (What Happens On Site)

1. Protection & prep: Dust-sheeting, access and safety setups.
2. Flue/liner works: Liner/twin-wall sections fitted and sealed; correct clearances confirmed.
3. Hearth & fit-off: Hearth set, stove positioned, joints sealed, and air supply tested.
4. Draw & leak checks: Smoke/pressure tests as appropriate.
5. Finishing: Surround refit, trims and notice plate installation.

4) Commissioning, Handover & Documentation

• First burn & controls: Air settings, reload cadence, and glass/airwash best practice.
• Safety: CO alarm placement check and ventilation review.
• Paperwork: Handover pack with notice plate details and (where applicable) HETAS certificate.
• Owner tips: Fuel quality, lighting technique and seasonal maintenance plan.

Aftercare & Servicing

Annual servicing and sweeping keeps efficiency high and protects your liner and appliance. If glass is blackening or rope seals are flattened, it’s time for a check-up.

Do I need a chimney to install a wood burner?

No. If you don’t have a chimney, we can design a twin-wall flue route during the survey. Start here: Book installation.

How long does installation take?

Most straight-through installs are completed within a day; more complex twin-wall routes or building works can take longer. We’ll confirm timelines after survey.

Will my stove be Ecodesign-Ready and OK in a Smoke Control Area?

Yes—choose from our Ecodesign-Ready range. We’ll advise on model-specific Smoke Control permissions at survey.

What’s the cleanest way to light my new stove?

Use Hot Box ® Firestarter and open air controls fully for the first 10–15 minutes to warm the flue. This keeps glass clear and reduces smoke.
