Stove Project Overview

A quality Morso freestanding woodburner installation recently finished near Easingwold, North Yorkshire. The customer completely renovated and old farmhouse and wanted a feature stove in his new drawing room. He had good experience with Morso woodburners before, hence he chose one of their freestanding unit.

As there was no chimney available to use, we opted for our go-to supplier of twin wall chimney systems, Schiedel. This old farmhouse is completely refurbished and insulated according to current building regulations therefore we supplied a direct combustion air supply for the woodburner to ensure no cold draft is wondering around in this property.

The woodburner is sitting over a teardrop shaped reinforced glass hearth to blend in better with the engineered oak flooring. Once we positioned the stove over the hearth and checked the distances to combustible materials, we started to measure where we need to drill our holes in the wall: one for the 200 mm chimney and one for the direct air supply. Both measurements proved to be tricky as there was limited space available on the outside of the building. This corner of the house was slightly below the outside ground level so we had to be really accurate where we can drill our core hole for the air vent. We also had to be careful how we measure our main hole for the chimney as we didn’t want to disturb neither the ceiling joists nor the window lintels.

As soon as we had our measurements right, it was a straight forward job. Once we had the hole, we cemented in a stainless steel sleeve, required for the flue system. Then we built our chimney system on a 45º degree through the wall and fitted the structural bracket mounted on the outside brick wall. Once that was sorted, we carried on building the stainless steel chimney system upwards, around the gutter and until we reached sufficient height. We finished the chimney with an anti-downdraught cowl. We also fitted a trim plate either side of the wall to hide the gap around the flue and sealed it from the outside to make sure there is no water leaking into the building.

On the inside, we re-assembled the woodburner and sealed the joint between the stove and chimney with high-temperature sealant. As a finishing touch, we re-sprayed the inside bit of the chimney to match the colour of the woodburner.

As part of the commissioning, we tested the stove by building a small fire. This was also a very good opportunity to explain to the client how to use, control and maintain the appliance.

 

 

The end result

As always, we aimed to carry out our installations to the highest standards and it’s safe to say the client was really satisfied with the end result. We hope this Morso woodburner will serve them well in the cold countryside winters.
