Stove Project Overview

Hot Box Stoves was asked to do a survey at a property with a Victorian-style open fireplace. Our customers expressed that even though their open fireplace is a beautiful and classic addition to their home, it has become inefficient and wasted a lot of heat. They were hoping that installing a stove into their existing fireplace will help to improve the efficiency and also will add a new level of functionality and comfort to the room.

Taking into account the size of the room and the fireplace opening, our project manager suggested Parkray Aspect 4 Compact.

The Aspect 4 Compact is the smallest of the Aspect collection, therefore, it was the best fit for the existing fireplace opening.

With a heat output range of 3-5.5kW, smoke control exemption and very high efficiency, Aspect 4 Compact stove may be small but it ensures a beautiful view of the flames through its large viewing window.

Our customers were pleased with the choice, they particularly liked the sleek and simple lines that complemented their Victorian-style fireplace.

INSTALLATION

The works began with placing temporary protection in all areas where work was to be carried out. Once the room was protected, the front bars and grate were removed, the rear metal was cleaned and spray painted in black.

Next, the chimney was swept and lined with a 316-grade twin skin flue liner. The new stove was placed in the correct position and a galvanized steel plate was fixed to the underside of the recess and sealed with high-temperature sealant. The customer’s new stove was connected with the liner using twin wall chimney components as well as a stove pipe. The chimney flue was completed with the installation of a pot hanging cowl.

Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using Firestarter. The smoke test ensures there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed. Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
