Stove Project Overview

Hot Box Stoves was asked to install The Hobbit SE in a newly purchased property. Our customers wanted a small stove that would fit the existing brick recess in their small sitting room.

The Hobbit SE was an excellent choice, it is specifically designed for installations where the space for a stove might be more limited, and this makes it the ideal choice for small fireplaces where larger stoves simply won’t fit. The Hobbit is a small cast iron multi-fuel stove that is able to burn wood, coal, or eco logs, and it fully complies with the new Eco Design 2022 regulations, which makes it suitable for any installations after the 1st January 2022.

INSTALLATION

As with every installation, the works began with placing temporary protection in the areas where work was to be carried out. The recess was prepared by our customers, therefore it was a relatively easy and hussle-free installation. The chimney was swept and lined with a Schiedel 316-grade twin skin flue liner. The stove was placed into a position and a galvanised steel plate was fixed to the underside of the recess and sealed with high-temperature sealant. The stove was connected with the liner using twin wall chimney components as well as a stove pipe. The chimney flue was completed with the installation of a pot hanging cowl.

Once the area where the stove was installed was cleaned and tidied, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using the one and only Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed. Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
