Stove Project Overview

Hot Box Stoves was asked to replace a traditional French cast iron stove with an efficient and modern-looking wood burner. Taking into account the size of the room as well as the efficiency requirements, our project manager suggested a Burley Hardwick stove.

Burley Hardwick is the most efficient stove currently on the market. Armed with a catalytic converter, it ensures a clean burn with an impressive 90.4% efficiency rating that surpasses the Defra and Eco Design requirements. It is built in Britain and features a heavy-duty steel body and a solid cast iron door with a large viewing window that allows you to really enjoy the view of the fire.

INSTALLATION

The work began by placing temporary protection in the area where work was to be carried out. The old stove together with the flue system was removed and the new stove was placed in the correct position. Next, a black Schiedel Twin Wall Chimney System was installed vertically through the ceiling and attic above before exiting the roof covering. Following that, a suitable lead flashing kit was installed together with a storm collar; the chimney system was completed with an anti-down draft cowl. Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using the one and only Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed. Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
