Stove Project Overview

A radical transformation to replace an existing gas fireplace in a modern and design conscious property in York.

Such a stove installation takes an expert and attention to detail is paramount to ensure the inset alliance is safe, compliant and enough ventilation is provided to get the neat out of the recess and into the room.

A key consideration is ventilation to the space behind the stove to let air in and heat out otherwise the boards around the stove will crack quickly.

The project involved a comprehensive process to take apart the existing faux chimney breast.

The existing flue was approved for solid fuel and wood and could, with some adaptation to suit the nature of the new woodburner, be re used.

The existing fireplace was dismantled and a new housing for the inset stove formed using metal stud work.

Importantly, the recess was designed in such a way to allow a free flow of air. The two heat ducts off the top of the fantastic DG Vision 1000 were used to take the heat away and direct it into the room to the sides of the fireplace.

Custom metal plates were fabricated by our teams on site to allow the warm air to move freely.

A complex mixture of construction and expertise in wood burners that has been gained over our 12 years of stove industry experience made Hot Box the perfect choice for this inset fireplace installation.

The end result

The end result is a modern inset stove that offers a superb view of the fire inside.

The stove was comprehensively tested using Hot Box ® Firestarter and a fire built to ensure it was functioning as it should.

With the fire inside the stove roaring away the custom heat ducts moved the air into the room very effectively and the boards around the fireplace remained relatively cool.
