Stove Project Overview

Hot Box Stoves was contacted by our customers who were completely re-designing their property and required several jobs to be completed. We were asked to supply and install two wood-burning stoves as well as to install a twin wall chimney system to an oil Aga cooker that was being moved to a different part of the house (LINK to the installation details). The two stoves that were chosen were Parkray Aspect 5 on a 225mm log store base and Dik Geurts Vidar Wall Hung wood stove.

Parkray Aspect 5, with a heat output range of 4-7kW, was installed in a newly created sunroom as a main source of heat during the cold winter months. Our customers liked the contemporary, simple design as well as the large viewing window. They also wanted a stove with a high-efficiency rating, and Aspect 5 certainly doesn’t disappoint with its efficiency on wood at 80%.

The Aspect series are highly controllable, these stoves can change from a high to low output in a matter of seconds. Even with their generous maximum outputs, Parkray Aspect‘s stoves have impressively low CO emissions, which means they can keep your room warm whilst being environmentally friendly.

INSTALLATION

As with every installation, the works began with placing temporary protection from the point where our operatives enter the property through to the room where the installation was undertaken.

To start with, the stove was placed on a square matt granite type hearth. Once it was in the correct position, a black Schiedel Twin Wall Chimney System was installed to the back of the stove; first vertically then through the wall at a 45′ angle and continued to a height in accordance with Document J of Building Regulations, using fixing brackets and components where required.

The chimney system was completed with an anti-down draft cowl.

Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that, there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed.

Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
