Stove Project Overview

Hot Box Stoves was asked to do a survey at a property with an old and unused gas fireplace. Our customers wanted it removed and replaced with a new efficient woodburning stove with a large viewing window to allow them to enjoy the view of the. They wanted it to be installed in a recess with a Geocast light oak beam above. Taking our customer’s requirements into account, our project manager suggested Parkray Aspect 5 Compact stove.

Parkway Aspect 5 Compact’s impressive 81% heat efficiency and an A+ energy rating meet the Eco Design 2022 regulations, it is also DEFRA approved meaning it can be installed in smoke control areas. Aspect series stoves are highly controllable, they can change from a high to low output in a matter of seconds. Even with their generous maximum outputs, these stoves have impressively low CO emissions, which means you can keep warm whilst being environmentally friendly. Powered with Tripleburn technology and Hot Airwash System it will keep your room warm and cosy in the fast-approaching winter months.

INSTALLATION

To begin with, temporary protection was placed in all areas where work was to be carried out and a gas-safe engineer was instructed to cut/cap off the gas to the recess.  The old fire together with the old heart was removed and works began to create a fireplace opening. Following that, a new reinforced concrete and steel lintel was installed, and the back and sides of the newly created recess were lined with a fireboard. Once recess works were completed, our engineers installed a slate hearth and a Geocast beam above the recess.

Next, the chimney was swept and lined with a Schiedel 316-grade twin skin flue liner. The stove was placed into a position and a galvanised steel plate was fixed to the underside of the recess and sealed between the closure plate and chimney with high-temperature sealant. The stove was connected with the liner using twin wall chimney components as well as a stove pipe. The chimney flue was completed with the installation of a pot hanging cowl.

Once all debris was disposed of and the area where the stove was installed was cleaned, our HETAS registered engineers performed a smoke test using the one and only Firestarter. The smoke test ensures that there is an adequate degree of draw and that all connections are sealed. Finally, in accordance with building regulations, a CO/ Carbon Monoxide Alarm and a chimney notice plate were installed.
